OPEN-FORUM CLASSES

Led by our long-time professional staff instructors, you will learn about every aspect of stone carving from selecting a stone to finishing and mounting your sculpture. Additionally, guest instructors come each year from around the world to offer special insights into carving everything from classical figurative work to detailed relief and large-scale abstract. Guest instructors are announced before each session. Standard workshops include:

  • Roughing Out and Pointing Up
  • Using Air Hammers & Chisels
  • Figure Carving
  • Texturing and Finishing
  • Tool Maintenance and Chisel Sharpening
  • Hand Lettering
  • Relief Carving
  • Face Carving (aka Face-Off)
  • Sandblasting
  • Pinning and Mounting
  • Moving and Handling
  • Cool Tools

The MARBLE/marble Symposium consists of three sessions, all following the same curriculum and appropriate for all levels, on the same dates every year:

JULY 2 – 9 • 2nd Session JULY 15 – 22 • 3rd Session JULY 29 – AUG 5
